Every fossil that we prepare is unique and one of a kind. Far more characteristics come into play on an item-to-item basis than just what type of animal is contained within the rock. Aspects such as bone placement, the degree of dis-articulation (how intact the specimen is), any decomposition before fossilization, the quality of the fossilization process, the hardness (or softness) of the rock, and others, will all come into play and affect the overall quality and appearance of a finished fossil. Though we strive to prepare each fossil to the best of our ability, we encounter variances in all the above aspects and these play a part in the final product. Because of these, we have separated our fossils into 4 different categories.
These are:
- Premium Grade - Virtually perfect fossils, suitable for framing.
- Standard Grade - Your typical fossil, fine for display, small imperfections
- Basic Grade - Some disarticulation or other imperfections in the fossil, sometimes major
- Nugget Fossil - Small fossil, good for those on a budget or who just want an example. Excellent gifts!
