Paleo Geo-Works (PGW) is a family-owned and operated fossil preparation company with 15+ years of experience preparing fossil plates. Located in the desert southwest, we have easy access to the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show. This show is the largest gem, mineral, and fossil show in the world. We source our un-prepped specimens from vendors there, or will order directly from them at other times of the year. We typically work on plates from the Green River Formation and from quarries in Lebanon, but have also worked on fossils from other regions.
Starting from scratching away at Knightia with a dental pick and a small fan to blow away dust, the fossil preparations have grown substantially over the years. We now have our own workshop with a variety of equipment dedicated to fossil preparations. Over 90% of our work is done under a professional stereo-microscope to carefully monitor the process. We use mostly air-scribes of various sizes in our work, but will frequently use air-abrasion techniques and even acid preparation methods when called for.
